“Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others
argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts,
but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else’s hands,
but not you.”
- Jim Rohn
Today’s busy-ness trap comes at a high price. Multitasking to get
things done saturates our personal and professional lives with excesses
of doing-ness. In business the paradigm is to quickly respond to the demands
of others through email, PDA’s, cell phones, meetings, deadlines,
and one-on-one meetings. Outside of careers, personal issues are the care
of self, family, relationships, environment, finances, spirituality, and
health. It seems people are automatically responding to some allusive fascination
to having it all. But what is having it all? Who’s “all” is
it? Is it yours or an unspoken agreement in society?
Even when something is accomplished
that was difficult, the celebration is fleeting to get on to the next
thing. To get over this rush, rush through
life is challenging. Yet, it can be done if that is what you want. Joseph
Campbell, an American mythology professor, writer and orator, wrote: “When
you follow your bliss…doors will open where you would not have thought
there would be doors, and where there wouldn’t be a door for anyone
else.” Find your bliss and you live life on your terms.
One of the success tools in weight loss programs is to get rid of trigger
foods. These are foods which are irresistible and so tempting that you
give in to eating the foods that prevent you from being healthier. Well,
won’t you agree there are a multitude of “trigger sources” in
everyday life that prevent people from living healthier and less stressful
lives?
“A musician must make
music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately
at peace with himself.” - Abraham
Maslow
Questions
hold the answers to Your Right Track:
- What are your “trigger sources”?
- What would you be doing if these “trigger sources” were
minimized?
- What are the values you are skipping over to please someone else?
- What are you sacrificing?
TIPS:
- Review the last 12 months in
each category of your life for the “trigger
sources”: relationships, business, environment, family, spirituality,
recreation, finances, and health. Look to see where you were and with whom.
What were you doing? Look to see where you gave up being you to please someone
else. What would you do differently?
- Pick one situation/project from
each of the above categories that you felt pleased with the results; especially
if the result was unlikely
to happen. Celebrate your wins – bringing forward the values and what
you did to build on in your future. These are your building blocks to mastery.
- In reviewing the past 12 months, it is not about making you feel
bad or guilty. It is to observe and notice what was and what you would like
to change.
- Twelve months, three years, ten years, twenty years from now what
is the difference you want to make as you follow your track?
- Do three things today that you
have been p.ushing aside waiting for “someday.” Someday
is today.

Recommended Book:
"Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett – A powerful
historical fiction based on 12th Century England
A masterful saga weaved with colorful events and characters connected through
the building of a Goethic cathedral in the medieval town of Kingsbridge.
The characters are engaging and historical research is excellent.
The cathedral takes 30 years
to build and anything that can go wrong does. It is full of political
interplay, weaved with the age old battle of good
and evil. The storytelling is memorable, full of action, adventure, betrayal,
suspense, and romance. By the end of the reading you feel you know the main
characters, Tom, Prior Phillip, Aliena, Jack, Richard, “Witch” Ellen,
William of Harnleigh, Waleran Bigod, along with a host of supporting characters.
It may keep you up at night, because it is too good to put down. It will
grasp your imagination with unforgettable storytelling.
