Begin 2010 with the End in Mind:

To reach your destination you need to know where you are going. Unfortunately it is a common phenomenon for people not to have a written vision or dream. Successful leaders craft a compelling vision that motivates and inspires them into taking the steps to actualize their desired result.

In preparing a vision statement the knowing of “how” to make the vision a reality isn’t important. Matter of fact, it can even get in the way! Dreams can disappear in a flash when trying to figure out the “how” to make it real. You want to first make the dream real in your mind’s eye before jumping into action on the physical plane. Figuring out the “how” comes later in the planning.

A dream or idea originates in a moment with no beginning or ending. It is a spark – an intuitive insight that inspires you. The duration of keeping the spark alive is up to you. It is your dream and your path. That spark is something you feel passionate about and would like to succeed in accomplishing

Allow the spark to linger while you visualize what it would be like to have your dream come alive in all its glory. Leaders are dreamers from all walks of life with visions generating extraordinary possibilities that make a difference. Donald McGannon, past president of Westinghouse Broadcasting Corp. and National Urban League, is quoted as saying: “Everyone leads! Leadership is action, not position.” Here is a short video showing how Shaklee leaders made a difference in helping to rehab a middle school closed since Katrina. They took action!

Your dream is what you desire to have or see happen. It is developed through your imagination with the end in mind before planning or taking action. It is the visualization process wherein you fuel the spark with optimism, faith, enthusiasm, and the belief you can achieve it. The spark becomes a flame that lights your way to your destination.

What is Your Dream for 2010? Will You be on Purpose?:

Here are questions to ask yourself as you develop your compelling vision for the year 2010 – and remember: leave out the “how” of “doing” it. Write down your answers without lifting pen or pencil from paper. Try to use this method of writing rather than a computer to give it the added neural spark available especially through your handwriting.

• What is your compelling vision for 2010?

• What difference will it make to you?

• What difference will it make in your lifestyle?

• What value will it have in the world?

• Where do you see yourself at the end of 2010?

The vision is the initial step and the vehicle to drive the vision before planning the action steps is your feelings. Is this a dream that feels good and inspires you? If it is it a dream coming from a “should” it will be a struggle to accomplish. You are going in the wrong direction and are off track if you are trying to live a dream that is out of synch with your thoughts and feelings. Your thoughts and feelings must be aligned to attract the success you seek, otherwise you will encounter conflict.

Don’t take the idea of having a dream lightly. Visions have the power to ignite passion for the good of all concerned. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I have a dream…” One man/woman with a dream no matter how small or big makes a difference. YOU make a difference!
