“Leadership
can be thought of as a capacity
to define oneself to others
in a way that
clarifies and expands a vision of the future."
- Edwin H. Friedman (family therapist and
leadership consultant d.
1996)
Organic
Leaders Are Creative:
One
of the striking attributes of a successful leader is their uncanny
ability to use their creative imagination to create possibilities. Possibilities exist in the unconscious incompetence for they are non-existent
in the external world, otherwise they would not be a possibility. There
is incompetence associated with the unconscious-incompetence possibilities,
because the possibility has not been tested!
Leaders see possibilities outside of the norm. Their imagination
sees the end in mind and from there he/she creates a vision or dream
of the outcome. It is something they are passionate about and believe
in personally or professionally. You take a leadership stance when
you decide to investigate possibilities outside of what is normal for
you. It could be competing in a marathon, taking innovative action
to increase business, change careers, or even asking for what you want.
Leadership is available to everyone and so are possibilities regardless
of where you are or what you do. You are born to lead organically.
The organic leader is evolving from the true self and not the ego self.
The organic leader steps into a future that is calling him/her. They
are not satisfied with living life from the bleachers. They are active
players who are willing to answer their call and transform. Are you
playing your game on the field or settling to be a spectator?
herself.
“The
least questioned assumptions are
often the most
questionable”
- Paul Broca (1824 –1880, French
physician,
anatomist, and anthropologist)
Tips
to Fire up the Path to Possibilities:
-
Use needlepoint to free your mind from stress, routines, or trying
to force an outcome when present resources fail to give you a solution.
It is better to needlepoint repetitive patterns and use one color.
This will help you to zone out and free your mind from preconceived
ideas. What becomes available is a clean canvas where possibilities
come alive. Needlepoint is not exclusive to women. The Boston Globe
(1/31/02) reported that male knitters include Russell Crowe, Oscar
Winning Actor; Ethan Zohn, winner of CBS Survivor: Africa; Bob
Mackie, American fashion designer; and Stu Bloomberg, network TV
producer.
-
Mind map! A mind map is a diagram used to represent
words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a
central key
word or idea. It is a fun technique that closely resembles how
your brain actually works, which helps you to better analyze, comprehend,
synthesize, recall and generate new ideas. Its power lies in its
simplicity. You will find more info on Tony Buzan’s website
http://www.buzanonline.com.
Tony is the inventor of mind mapping.
-
To be an organic leader is to be proactive rather than reactive.
Most people react and get hooked into other people’s scenarios
and drama. They unconsciously fall into agreements of what there
is to like and not to like, who to like and who not to like and
approval seeking. It is the collective unconscious wherein lies
the opportunity to look at circumstances another way - another
possibility. Be proactive in being the solution you are seeking.
-
Remember: Anything
Is Possible.
"I
cannot give you the formula for success,
but I can give you the formula
for failure
which is: Try to please everybody."
- Herbert B. Swope (US editor and journalist, d. 1958)
